Motet Translations

Heinrich Schütz: "Ad dominum cum tribularer," SWV 71-72 - Cantiones Sacrae

Psalm 120: 1-4

Ad dominum cum tribularer clamavi,
et exaudivit me.
Domine, libera animam meam
a labiis iniquis et a lingua dolosa.

Quid detur tibi
aut quid apponatur tibi,
ad linguam dolosam?
Sagittae potentis,
potentis acutae cum carbonibus desolatoriis.

To the Lord, in tribulation, I cried out,
and he heard me.
Lord, free my soul
from evil lips and from a deceitful tongue.

What will be given to you,
and what shall be placed upon you,
on the deceitful tongue?
Powerful arrows,
sharp and strong, with burning coals.
