Motet Notes
Heinrich Schütz: "Ein Kind ist uns geboren," SWV 384
- Geistliche Chormusik
The first words of this brilliant Christmas motet are familiar from Handel's
Messiah. The initial Christmassy lilt gives way to tuneful birdlike imitations ("Wonderful, Counsellor"). Then, with less familiar texts, the piece gets increasingly stronger, more serious and winds up in a quite a different place than it started.
