Heinrich Schütz: "Aus der Tiefe ruf ich, Herr, zu dir," SWV 25 - Psalmen Davids
Schütz' setting of Psalm 130 is for two 4 voice choruses. As befits the somber text, they are both pitched very low. The solemn, almost catatonic, chords that open this impressive work give way to subtle but very specific text painting.
